Imported axis orientation in AutoPIPE Nozzle is different than in AutoPIPE, why and can it be modified to match?
These images above have the exact same axis directions.
In order to make it easier when referring to the WRC axis directions (imaged below) the image on the application window is always oriented with the nozzle in the vertical direction.
Let us see how these axis identified on the Vessel / Nozzle Orientation dialog and the application screen are the same. See 2 example below:
Step #4 matches exactly to the application image axis orientations shown below:
Step #3 matches exactly to the application image axis orientations shown below:
Yes this is may not be the easy to understand at first, but remember the following:
- AutoPIPE exports all loads based on the Anchor / Reference point local axis direction
- The User is first prompted to set the Vessel / Nozzle orientation when importing a model from AutoPIPE into AutoPIPE Nozzle. As demonstrated above the axis orientation on the dialog will match the application screen.
-Highly suggest that after importing a model from AutoPIPE that the user not change the Nozzle Axis or Shell Axis settings on the Shell tab. If they are changed, understand that the program by design workflow will not reassign the existing loads already imported on the LOAD tab. or update the Vessel / Nozzle orientation dialog.
- Re-opening and making changes on the Vessel / Nozzle orientation dialog after the import process will update the application image and Shell tab settings as needed. Again, the loads on the LOAD tab will remain unchanged.
Note:
Regardless of Vessel / Nozzle orientation dialog settings, the application screen image will always be the same image with possibly different axis designations.
Nozzle Axis = +X
Nozzle Axis = -X
Refer to image above,
Nozzle axis arrow is always pointing vertically up
Shell axis arrow is always pointing to the upper right away from the nozzle
Lateral shell axis is always pointing to the lower right towards the nozzle
