Changing the location of prefs folder on OBD

Product(s):

Version(s):

24.00.02.45

Area:

General

Subarea:

Preferences

Problem:

I need to locate the prefs folder in a custom folder location due to my project requirements. How can I relocate the prefs folder from the default location to a custom folder path?

Solution:

To achieve your requirements, you need to change the value of the configuration variable "_USTN_HOMEROOT" in the file named "msconfig.cfg" located at "C:\Program Files\Bentley\OpenBuildings 2024\OpenBuildingsDesigner\Config\" folder location by default (for OpenBuildings Designer 2024).

For example, if you have created a "New Folder" inside the D drive dedicated for this work, then follow the steps below:

1. Close any instances of OpenBuildings Designer 2024 that are running on your system.

2. Go to "C:\Users\Your.Name\AppData\Local\Bentley\OpenBuildingsDesigner\" and copy the folder named "24.0.0" if you are using OBD 2024.

3. Paste this folder inside your preferred location which is the "New Folder" inside the D drive in this example.

4. Go to "C:\Program Files\Bentley\OpenBuildings 2024\OpenBuildingsDesigner\Config\" and open the file named "msconfig.cfg" using any text editor like Notepad or Notepad++ etc.

5. Scroll down to find the configuration variable "_USTN_HOMEROOT" and assign its value to "D:/New Folder/24.0.0/" as shown in the following screen grab.

Make sure to put forward slash ( / ) while defining the folder location.

6. Save the changes to the file and close it. Note: You might need admin privileges to make modifications to this CFG file.

7. Launch OBD 2024 and check the Configuration Variable "TFDIR_PREFS" to make sure that you are directed to the correct prefs folder.
