Insert a Beam:

Step #1: First, add structural steel cross-sections properties into a model:

a. Use the Beam Section Properties dialog...

b. Enter a Section Id and configure the dialog as needed. Press Apply and then OK button to complete the process.

c. Create a new Beam Section Id with different properties as needed for modeling.

Step #2: To insert a new beam into the model:

a. Use the Insert > Beam Dialog...

b. Select the correct Section ID from the drop down list of configured Beam Section Properties added above.

NOTE: Beam assemblies can be copy/pasted into the model (connected or unconnected).

Modify a Beam

After a beam has been inserted into a model use one of the following techniques to modify the beam: using Input Grids or Beam Dialog

Example:

The following Shows a 2 ft vertically beam connecting to a pipe and another horizontal 2ft beam., question: how to modify both beams to be 3 feet ? see answer below:

Answer: Use one of the following techniques:

Input Grid:

On the Input grids, find the correct beams and modify the offset Dx, Dy, and / or Dz values accordingly:

Beam dialog:

a. Select the beam that is to be modified until it is highlighted red.

b. Press Modify> Beam>  update original value from 2 ft to 3 ft.

c. As a result the beams are shown like this, remember that beams connected to other beams are based on an offset distance.

d. Again, select the beam to be modified so it turns red.

e. Update the value of the offset as needed, in this example, both Dx and Dy need to be updated as indicated below:

f. Press OK button to accept changes.
