Background

Many users still have older RAM and STAAD products that utilize hardware locks. When moving to new computers with Windows 7 and Windows 8, however, these products require some additional steps to activate and run. This provides steps to assist with this process.

Note: Older RAM and STAAD products have not been tested with Windows 7 and Windows 8. They should still run, but they may behave unexpectedly.

Steps to Accomplish

RAM Products

Before SELECTserver, RAM products were licensed by one of three hardware locks:

Older RAM products that utilize hardware locks include driver installers for each of the locks. However, the driver software functions under Windows XP and earlier. Updated drivers must be downloaded from the hardware lock vendor's website for use on more current operating systems.

For Sentinel SuperPro and NetSentinel hardware locks, download and install the Sentinel Driver on the following web page:

For NetHASP hardware locks, download and install the Sentinel HASP/LDK Windows GUI Run-time Installer in the Featured Downloads section of the following web page:

STAAD products

Before SELECTserver, STAAD products were typically licensed by a Sentinel HASP single license lock. Download and install the Sentinel HASP/LDK Windows GUI Run-time Installer in the Featured Downloads section of the following web page:

Installation Notes

Older RAM and STAAD products were not designed for use  with User Access Control (UAC) which is present in Windows Vista and later. Configuring such programs to run as an administrator is advised. To do this, please perform the following steps:

  1. Right-click on the desktop shortcut for the program.
  2. Select Properties from the contextual menu that appears.
  3. In the Properties window, click the Compatibility tab.
  4. Place a checkmark next to "Run this program as an administrator" at the bottom.
  5. Click the OK button to save changes.
