Which direction is forward or backward on an Incline support, Rotation Support, or Snubber support in AutoPIPE?
The forward / backward direction for any of the 3 supports is in relation to the direction cosines that are defined for the support i.e. in the direction of the direction cosines (from the supported point) is forward and vice versa. A simple test can be performed to get support reactions for a gaped support to see which direction is forward / backward.
Please see the following AutoPIPE help section:
Help > Contents> Contents Tab> Reference Information> Results Interpretation> Support Forces for Skewed Supports.
Based on the information mentioned in the AutoPIPE help, open a support dialog:
See the direction of the Support = Global X or +X axis, therefore the forward direction is along the global +X axis, VIsea Versa, backwards would be along the global -X axis.
Perform a test to verify the forward direction.
a. Set the Gap for the support Forward Gap = 2 inch, Backward Gap = 0.00 inch.
b. Look at the support in the model. See the vertical, and the obvious gap, this would be the forward direction.
Forward direction is on the global +X-axis
