Problem:

What code equation is used for calculating Thermal Stress for buried piping per HDPE? i.e. 3311.1, 3311.2, or 3311.3

Solution:

AutoPIPE is using Section-3311.3 “Alternate Thermal Expansion and Contraction Evaluation” which is an alternative to 3311.1 and 3311.2, the soil stiffness may be accounted for to calculate pipe expansion and contraction stresses.

AutoPIPE is not using equation 3311.1 and 3311.2 for its thermal expansion and contraction calculations instead AutoPIPE always use 3311.3. AutoPIPE help will be updated to reflect this information (931925) .
