Problem:

How to model a Y-type strainer configuration with AutoPIPE?

Solution:

Building on the existing modeling technique shown here.

This page will focus on modeling just a Y-type strainer.

Length  = 1.5 ft long

Component  weight = 100 lbs,

Weight of contents inside = 50 lbs

Flange connections = 300# rating. F

Valve drain = 1/2"

a. Model the Strainer as mentioned here

b. Make B06 the current node point. and select Modify> Convert> Run to Tee. 

Note, user must decide to select an appropriate type of tee to consider stress at tee connection or override with sif = 1.0 and ignore stress at this connection.

c. Select the Branch arrow and enter in an offset to the end of the strainer. (ex. dx = 0, dy = -9", dz = -6")

d. Insert Run of pipe between strainer and bleed valve, (ex. 4") using the correct pipe properties.

e. insert Bleed valve

f. Apply the correct weight of contents and component weight as needed using techniques on the previous WIKI page, or accept the weight as is.

Note: this modeling technique will generate a Warning message in the model consistency  check report:

W726-7:   Pipe diameter change without a reducer at following point(s)     

This waring message can not be removed, just accept the warning as a known location and expect this warning to appear. In the future, AutoPIPE will have a mechanism to remove expected warnings. However until then it will appear in the report.
