For the packaged examples with AutoPIPE Vessel, such as "Vessel on brackets ASME.emvd", in the calculation result page "Vessel under combination loading" -> "Period and Center of Gravity", there is output: Period,
Question, This "Period" is calculated by what method?
Eigenvalue to the fifth is output even for a simple model. How to decide the quality of discretization? Is decided automatically by internal, or Or is decided based on some input data?
Furthermore, is this "Period" also used besides the calculation of seismic load, wind load calculations? if so, please let us know it is used in which case?
The period is calculated by finite element analysis. The vessel is modeled as a beam. AutoPIPE Vessel consider that brackets prevent rotation and translation so two beams are modeled (one above brackets, the other below).
User cannot decide the quality of discretisation. AutoPIPE Vessel puts a node for each load. Then other nodes are added to get between 100 and 400 nodes for one vessel.
The period is used only for seismic calculation and wind calculation.
