Is there any way to get "real-time" zoom and pan functions in MicroStation?
For example, within Intelli-Cad I can hold down "Ctrl+Shift" with the left mouse button and get real-time zoom. While holding all three buttons, I can push the mouse forward to zoom in and pull it back to zoom out. While continuing to hold "Ctrl+Shift", if I release the mouse button I can then reposition the curser on the screen to set the zoom center. Similar combinations are available for real-time panning.
Microstation has similar functions, but the amount of zoom and pan is controlled by a magnification scale - this causes the screen to "jump" in and out, or left to right, at fixed amounts. To achieve the exact view you are looking for, it's often necessary to use the Zoom Window option.
The functionality being described should be possible in MicroStation V8 XM Edition, through the ability to assign key-button combos. For example, you would be able to map Shift+Left button to real-time Zoom, and Shift+Right button to real-time Pan. The real-time navigation itself is handled by the functions Zoom-scroll and Pan-scroll, new to the Mozart release.
