Problem

How to update/replace a shared cell definition and its instances in a file

Solution

1. Open the DGN that contains the shared cells you would like toupdate/replace
2. Key-in "EXPORT CELLS SHARED [destinationCell LibraryName]" if you do not have the cell library that contains the original cell. For example: EXPORT CELLS SHARED C:\myCells\CellLibrary.cel
3. Open the Cell Library as you would open any DGN file
4. File>Models and open the Model/Cell to be modified
5. Make your modifications to the Model/Cell
6. Open the DGN that contains the shared cells
7. Attach the Cell Library created in Step 2.
8. Start the Replace Cells tool and set the Method to Update
9. Select one of the Shared Cell instances in the file and Accept it with a data point
