How to
Create a Seed user Preference File (*.SPF) that does not contain file history.
ie. When I create a new *.UPF file from a *.SPF file (defined by MS_USERPREFSEED) the file menu displays the file history from that *.SPF file. How can I create a *.SPF file that does not contain any file history?
Background
MS_FILEHISTORY
- If set equal to 1, save the last several files and directories for each file type.
- If set equal to 0, no file histories will be maintained.
MS_USERPREFSEED
- Name of seed file used to create user preference resource file.
Steps to Accomplish
- Disable file history from being maintained by setting MS_FILEHISTORY=0
• This prevents future file history from being maintained
• Setting this variable will not remove the existing list of recent files - Force MicroStation to create a *.UPF from the default seed preference
a. Remove the defined path for MS_USERPREFSEED
b. Close MicroStation
c. Delete the *.UPF
d. Restart MicroStation - Set Preferences
a. Go to: Workspace > Preferences
b. Make changes as desired.
c. Go to: File > Save Settings - Make a copy of the *.UPF and change the extension to *.SPF
• User Preference File path can be found by going to: Workspace > About Workspace - Set MS_USERPREFSEED to use the new *.SPF
- Create a new *.UPF from the *.SPF
a. Close MicroStation
b. Delete, move or rename the previously used *.UPF
c. Restart MicroStation - Optional: Reset MS_FILEHISTORY=1 to enable maintaining file history
