Icons in the side panel are distorted

 Applies To
 Product(s):RAM Connection, RAM Elements
 Version(s):Connect Editions 13.06, 16.05
 Environment: Windows 10, Dell PC
 Area: General; Graphics; User Interface

Problem Description

It has been observed that on few machines using RAM Connection, while hovering the mouse on icons in the side panel, they look distorted.

Investigation on this has identified the cause to be related to DELL machines which runs AWCC Service that is AlienWare Command Center.

Steps to Resolve

  1. Exit out from RAM Connection.
  2. Open Windows explorer, navigate to the folder C:\ProgramData\A-Volute\DellInc.AlienwareSoundCenter\Modules\ScheduledModules\Configurator,
  3. Add the following list of executables at the end of the BlackApps.dat.
  4. Save the BlackApps.dat file (this may require additional rights).
  5. Open Task Manager and go to 'Services' and search for 'AWCCService' - Right click and 'Restart'.
  6. Launch RAM Connection and it should run fine.

Similar issues may occur with RAM Elements; adding the executable (RAMElements.exe) in the exclusion list as above will correct the problem.

P.S. The folder ProgramData from step 2 above, may be not visible to you; you should check with your IT group on that.

Any updates to the ‘AlienWare Command Center’ or AWCC service can cause the BlackApps.dat file to get reset to default, in which case, the graphics problems would resurface. In such cases, one would have to repeat the steps 1 to 6 listed above.
