QUESTION: How LBC performs a) Use Shear and Torsion Design b) Use Concurrent Shear and Torsion Calculation ?

ANSWER::

Currently in LBC for “Use Torsion for Shear Design “option uses maximum shear and maximum torsion even though they do not occur simultaneously for any given load combinations.

A typical case is shown below. The max Vu from the load combination #109, and the max Tu from the load combination #512 are used for the shear/torsion design at the POI 3.67’.

The design might be conservative when both effects are considerable. Therefore, the “Concurrent shear and torsion “ load effects shall be considered to avoid the conservative design

• Program Identifies two load combinations. One is for maximum Vu, say, #109 for example, the other for maximum Tu, say, # 512 for example.
• Program Runs the current routine of shear/torsion check, using Vu and Tu data from the same load combination #109 and performs the design check.
• Program Runs the current routine of shear/torsion check, using Vu and Tu data from the same load combination #512 and performs the design check
