After creating a Complex Chain, there appears to be two handles occupying the same point. When hovering the mouse over the handle, two numbers are displayed in the pop up, see image 1.
Check if the Complex Chain was created in a 3D Model. If so, it is possible there is a very small segment in the Complex Chain that has a Z value, this would account for the extra handle. If viewing the model generally in the Top View orientation, change the View to Front (image 2) or Isometric (image 3) to try and see the segment.
