The phenomena which occurs when tags on products happen to be placed right behind each other, and RF signal produced by the reader's antenna can be used by the first tag to generate a response, while the second tag gets minimal or no signal and has no chance to respond to interrogation. The second tag is "in the shadow" of the first tag.
