What are the major changes observed in IS 1893(Part-1)-2016 compared to the 2002 version of the code?

The followings are the major changes in the current code compared to the older version-

  1. Design spectra defined up to natural period 6.00 s
  2. Same design spectra corresponding to 5% damping are specified for all buildings, irrespective of material
  3. Introduced intermediate importance category of buildings to consider the density of occupancy
  4. Buildings designed for at least a minimum lateral force Additional clarity about different types of irregularity of structural 56
  5. Additional clarity about different types of irregularity of structural system
  6. Effect of masonry infill walls included
  7. Natural period of buildings with basement, step back buildings and buildings on hill slopes included
  8. Simplified procedure for evaluating liquefaction potential is added

Apart from the liquification potential computation, the other changes specified in the code can be computed from STAAD.Pro CE. The design spectra is implemented in STAAD.Pro CE
