Problem

How to convert DWG references through the Batch Converter

Solution

Under the batch converter, go to:

Edit > V8 Save Options > References 

Select Convert Reference Files to ON

When set to  ON  DWG or V7 DGN file with references will then be converted to V8 DGN files
