While designing the columns as per IS13920-2016 columns has not designed and STAAD states that, *** WARNING: DEPTH OF BEAM # ** SHALL PREFERABLY BE LESS THAN THE 1/4TH OF CLEAR SPAN ASSUMING IT TO BE SPANNING BETWEEN SUPPORTS. IF NOT, USE COMBINE PARAMETER.
Can you please explain what is the reason behind the message and how can I get rid of it ?
As per clause 6.1.3 beams shall not have depth more than of 1/4th of clear span. This check is applicable for physical beam and not analytical. In STAAD all beams are treated as analytical beams. So,when a beam is divided in parts, program is unable to understand the proper physical span and takes node to node distance as span for the beam by default. So, in many cases the we get a warning related to improper depth to span ratio. To avoid this warning you should use combine parameter. To know the use of this parameter please refer help file below locations. Please read the notes carefully from the help file before implementing the same in your model

Please note Design Beam command should be used after each combine parameter.
