Problem
How do you create or edit a detail symbol to be used in a detailing symbol style?
Solution
For modification of the cells, here are the steps that you can do. There are quite a few steps and it does involve creating a new cell library because the delivered cells that we have are in a read-only ustation.dgnlib file.
- Create your own cell library that you want to use to store your detail symbols in.
- Import the cell from the models dialog (design model) from the ustation.dgnlib file into your cell library(custom dgnlib file). (ustaton.dgn lib file is read-only and typically located in the following location. C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i\(SELECTseries)\MicroStation\ustation.dgnlib\
- Edit the cell that you imported and also edit the model/cell name so that it is unique. (it is recommended to edit or change the delivered cell rather than creating a new cell from scratch).
- Set the variable MS_DETAILSYMBOLS_CELLLIST and MS_DGNLIBLIST to include the cell library that you created. Restart MicroStation in order for it to pick up the cell library.
- In your cell library file you can create a new Detailing Symbol Style from the Element pulldown menu.
- In any of the cell settings, you can select the drop down list of cells and the cells that you created will be on the list for you to select.
- Save the changes to the style.
- When you place a section call out, you can then select the Detail Style to the custom one that you created.
There is also information in the help under Composing Drawings > Drawing Composition Workflow > Placing Detailing Symbols. Check the headings "General Procedure - Providing custom cells and creating placeholder fields" and "To create a detailing symbol style using custom cells".
