How to create a Cross Section / Clip Volume through a Reality Mesh

Background

Creating a Cross Section / Clip Volume through a Model containing a Reality Mesh (or other Element types) to be placed in a Sheet Model can be achieved manually by creating Clip Volume, Saved View and attaching as a reference into a Drawing or Sheet model.

However, this process can be automated using the Section Callout tool

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Open the Design Model containing the Reality Mesh / other elements.
  2. Select the Section Callout tool (Drawing > Annotate > Detailing)
  3. In the Tool Settings dialog select the appropriate predefined Drawing Seed: Section (Your Administrator may have defined other for you to use) and set the Height: as required
  4. Optional : Enable the 'Create Drawing' toggle to go straight to the Create Drawing process (Tip: If off it will allow you to not only define the Section, but also its content, IE turn levels or construction elements off at this stage so they don't appear in the Sheet Model )
  5. Place the Section Callout by defining the Start, End, Direction and Depth required.
  6. Using Element Selection, move the cursor over the placed Section Callout and select the 'Create Drawing' icon to Display the Create Drawing dialog. (This would appear having placed the Section Callout if the toggle had been enabled at step 4)
  7. On the Create Drawing dialog:
    1. Type the name of the Section required
    2. Select the Drawing Seed to be used
    3. Enable the 'Create Drawing Model' and adjust settings required. (In this instance the section depth of the Reality Mesh is required to be textured, thus setting Visible Edges to Dynamic)
    4. Enable the 'Create Sheet Model' and adjust settings required
    5. Optional: Enable 'Add To Sheet Index' and select the appropriate Sheet Index location
    6. Optional: Enable 'Open Model' to open the Sheet Model when done.
  8. On the Create Drawing dialog select 'OK' to generate the Saved View, Drawing Model and Sheet Model.
