Elements dimensions

The RM Bridge computational model is a mathematical model that should elegantly simplify the complex engineering system that needs to be analyzed. By considering the bridge structure as an assembly of elements, the system's properties are determined from the properties of the individual parts. The junction points between the elements are the nodes or joints. Their location is critical in determining the accuracy of the structural model.

Some of the factors that should be considered when defining the elements (and hence nodes) for the structure are:

NOTE: All elements should have reasonable dimensions and require general structural engineering know-how. The critical analysis of the model is necessary to avoid simple errors resulting from unnecessary complexities. Very short elements compared with the cross-section dimensions will cause numerical problems in the solution process and should be avoided. Eccentric Connections should be used instead of small fictitious connection elements as a better solution.
