Question:

How can I convert DGN to IFC

Solution:

MicroStation V8i - MicroStation 2024:

MicroStation V8i through MicroStation 2024 cannot export or "save as" to IFC file format.

MicroStation can only view/open IFC files.

However, MicroStation is already being more helpful by allowing IFC import through referencing.

You will need OpenBuildings Designer (previously AECOSim Building Designer) to perform this.

With MicroStation 2025 a new Techn preview has been added.

(Technology Preview) Export to IFC format

• (Technology Preview) Ability to export DGN files to IFC format
  You can now export DGN, DWG, and DXF files to .ifc format using the Export to IFC tool available from File > Export > Exchange File Types > IFC(*.ifc). MicroStation now supports IFC 2.3, IFC 4, and IFC 4.3.
