How to export more than one design model from DGN to DWG

Background

DGN files allow to keep multiple design and sheets models in one file while DWG allow to have only one design model (model space) and multiple drawing layout (paper space), which are equivalent to sheets. Because of this discrepancy between software and in case of ultimately vision of saving the drawing to DWG, the best practice is to work only with one default design model inside DGN. However, if the DGN file contains more than one design model, in Save As DWF/DXF Options there are possibilities to determine the behaviour during export of Non-Default Models.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Go to Save As DWG/DXF Options-> General-> Advanced->Non-Default Design Models
  2. If If the Option Ignore If Not Merged was selected, non-default design models are not saved to a DWG file
  3. If the Option Create Paper Space was selected, non-default design model is saved to a drawing layout (paper space) in the DWG model
  4. If the Option Create Separate Files was selected, non-default design model is saved to a separate DWG file. Additionally in DWG file with non-default design model, empty drawing layout (paper space) was created.

The below video is showing the example workflow.
