This article describes the use of 3DFoundation v2.1 (Plaxis, 2008) to analyse the deformation and stability of a crane monopile foundation supporting a tower crane in close proximity to an existing two-level basement structure. Coffey Geotechnics were engaged to carry out a Category 3 check of the crane monopile foundation. As part of our quality assurance procedures a number of comparisons were made to assess the performance of 3DFoundation for analyzing this particular problem.
