How can a document be opened using a Key-in combined with a variable

Background

A custom variable (e.g. TEST_DOC) has been created and a folder path assigned to it. Using the Key-in window, a document (like a pdf) in the folder assigned to the variable can be opened from within MicroStation by combining the variable in a Key-in

Steps to Accomplish

  1. In this example, a pdf file named instruct.pdf will be used. This is located in C:\temp\
  2. Create the variable, for example, TEST_DOC (can be created in UCF)
  3. Assign a path to the variable, in this case; C:\temp\
  4. Open MicroStation and open the dialog "Key-in"; in V8i versions go to the menu Utilities > Key-in
  5. Enter the Key-in: $ % "$(TEST_DOC)\instruct.pdf"
  6. The pdf document should open
