Overview

In iTwin IoT there is a concept called Events, Events is a module that allows you to create events that are tied to specific sensors for a time period or for the whole asset. This will allow you to create events that notify all users that something happened in your asset which might shed more light on to why the data suddenly changed or shows anomalies.

Accessing the Event Management module

To access the Event management module you navigate to the Events category in the left menu, from there you can choose Event Management.

Creating Events

Creating events within your asset is accessible through multiple features within iTwin IoT. When creating an event you can either tie that event to just one or more sensor or all current and future sensors in your asset.

Through Event Management

Once you are in the Event Management module you can click the "+Event" button in the upper left corner. Once clicked a selection screen will appear that allows you to choose two different event types.

Sensor event - This is an event that can be applied to one or more sensors, this list is immutable unless it is changed. It only applies to your defined list of sensors. This is mostly useful for something specific for your sensor, such as a replacement of a sensor or a malfunction.

-Asset event - This is a global event that can be applied to all of the current and future sensors in your asset. This is useful when you want to define some global event such as record rainfall or an earthquake.

Sensor Event

Once you pick Sensor Event the entity picker will appear which allows you to choose one or multiple sensors to configure an event for. When you have chosen your sensor/s then the "Create Event" dialogue will appear.

Asset event

If you choose the Asset event type then the "Create event" dialogue will immediately appear with no sensors in the graph as this applies to all sensors in the asset. From this dialogue you can define your time range and configure the event as normal.

Create event dialogue

Once you are in the Create Event dialogue you can either click once on the graph to select a specific observation or point in time, or you can hold left-click and drag your mouse cursor to select a time period on the graph.

Once you have selected your event time range you can change the settings for your event.

- Name: This will dictate what name is associated with your event and what is displayed on the graph

- Description: this is an optional description of the event further detailing what happened

- Time range: This is the time range for your event, you can configure the time range manually through this setting

- Tags: This is the event tag that is associated with this event. You can pick from a defined list you have created or create a new tag. Once you create a new tag it will be available for every future event you intend to create.

- Event type: This will allow you to change the event type if need be. You can choose to assign the event to all sensors in your graph or to change it to an Asset Event

Color: This allows you to define the color for your event, for example blue for general information and red for a malfunction.

Through Time Series Graphs

When you are anywhere in iTwin IoT viewing Time Series Graphs you can add an event directly through that graph.

Once you click the "create event" option you will get the same user interface as described in the section above.

Managing events

Once you have created some events for your asset you can get an overview and manage your events through the Event Manager. If you left click any of these events you get the same configuration dialogue for your event as shown above. You can also delete the event. In the upper right corner of the Event management you can search for events by name or filter them by tags and time period.
