Overview
An asset, in iTwin IoT is any structure or spatial area that is being monitored by a sensor set. This asset, or project, houses sensor data and provides the module tools like dashboards, graphs, iTwin View, alerts, and reports to monitor that asset within the platform.
Once a new Bentley IMS account is created for an organization and Admin users have been added to that organization, any Admin users from that organization can access iTwin IoT with their Bentley account, and create a new iTwin IoT asset. This article will help guide you, as an Admin, in how to access iTwin IoT and create an asset.
This article will cover:
1. Go to iTwin IoT- Visit https://itwiniot.bentley.com/ on your browser (Chrome recommended).
2. Email Address- Input the email address you have associated with your Bentley IMS login.
3. Password Input- Enter your Bentley IMS password.
4. Sign-in- Click the blue sign-in button at the bottom of the login window.
Once logged into the app, an admin user can create an asset by following the steps below.
1 - Click on Register Asset.
The page shown below will allow you to configure and create your new asset.
1. Asset Name - Input the Asset name.
2. Asset Location and Extents - Define the location within the map on the upper right by following the steps below. The extents of the asset control where iTwin Viewer default view is located, and defines the extents within which your iModels should are constrained. It is important to select an area that is larger than any models you will be bringing into this asset.
a. Extents polygon selection- In the upper left corner of the map, there are two button options that control how your asset polygon is drawn. The upper option is a true polygon selection allowing you to add multiple points to customize the shape of the extent boundary. the lower option allows you to quickly and easily create a rectangle as the asset extent. This is the option we will use in this article.
b. Layers tools- The layers button in the upper right has a few toggles that you can employee to better find and map the extents of your asset. This toggles include "satellite", which turns on satellite imagery as the background, and "search results", which drops a pin on the searched location when use the search bar in part d. below.
c. Map zoom- There are plus and minus buttons that allow you to zoom in and out on the map. You can also use a mouse-wheel.
d. Search function- The search function allows you to input an address or nearby city to help you navigate to the asset area.
e. Asset polygon draw- Once you've found your asset area, you can click once to begin creating your rectangle to surround your asset. The box will size the your cursor. Clicking a second time will fully form the rectangle.
f. Confirm asset polygon selection- The three buttons along the bottom from left to right are "Confirm selection", "Clear selection", and "Undo selection". Confirming the selection will set the asset extent box. Once completed, the latitude and longitude will appear on the left side of the screen, as shown below. Clear selection will allow you to redraw the polygon. Undo selection will delete the last polygon point dropped.
3. Asset Image - If you would like, you can add a cover picture that will be used as a thumbnail in the Assets Overview page.
4. Time Zone- Select the time zone for the project.
5. Allow External Members- The "Allow External Members" checkbox will allow you to add users not in your IMS organization to the asset. User cases include adding the Bentley support team, end user clients, or other services teams.
6. Create Asset- Hit "Create" to add the asset to the asset list.
Once created, the assets will be shown as thumbnails in the Recents bar, Favorites bars, or in the tabular list at the bottom of the page. For more information about this Asset Overview page, visit the support article.
