Background
You will often need to map some of the ISM Sections to Revit® Family types when importing data from or updating from an existing ISM Repository.
During any Sync ISM operation which imports ISM data into a Revit file, the program will attempt to match ISM Sections to the family types associated with the current Revit project file. Often, sections used in the ISM repository will not have a match detected in this family type. You can, however, instruct the program to select additional Revit family files to search in the Match process.
If no match can be determined by the smart search, you can specify a new family symbol by duplicating an existing one. The program will provide you the data within the ISM Section, making this a simple process.
Steps to Accomplish
Manually selecting a Revit® Family Type mapping
You can manually assign mappings to ISM types using the Edit Family Files Mappings dialog.
Select the mapping you want to manually edit in the Column/Framing Sections Import Mappings table. The mapping details are displayed in the right-hand pane.
Select either of the following for the Family Type Location.
Project family: Used to select from a list of family types already loaded into the Revit model.
External family: Used to select from a list of family types specified in the Shared Settings database.
In the Family File parameter value field, click […]. The Select Family Type dialog opens.
Select the Family Type from the list and click Select. The sections and parameters available in the family type file are loaded.
Select the Family and section Name you want to use in the details pane. The mapping is updated as you make changes. The mappings in the Revit file will be updated when you click Next in the wizard.
Specifying a New Family Symbol
You can add a new Revit® family symbol by duplicating an existing family symbol and editing the copy. This is useful in cases when there is a Revit Family file containing geometry that matches the ISM section geometry, but it does not contain a family type that matches the ISM section dimensions.
At least one Revit family file must be associated in order to have a source from which to duplicate a family symbol.
Select the mapping you want to edit from the table. The mapping details are displayed in the right-hand pane.
Click New Type. The Duplicate Family Symbol dialog opens.
Select the appropriate Family and Name in the from the drop-down field lists.
Note: The Family Category selection must match the ISM Section type in order to use the duplicated section.
The Enter New Family Type Name dialog opens.
Type a New Name.
For each of the New parameter values, either:
type a value to use or select <copy> to simply copy the value from the source family symbol
Click Duplicate. The dialog closes and the mapping is updated with the newly created family symbol.
