Overview

While modelling steel structures, you may need to place a catwalk at many places in the model. This repetitive modelling of individual elements for the catwalk would increase the modelling time and hence, to reduce this you can use the Catwalk command to instantly place catwalks along a predefined polyline (path) and can control the associated parameters through a dedicated dialog box.

This document will guide you on how to create, place and control the insertion and placement of catwalk structures.

Method

1) Create a poly line in the shape of the path that you want for your catwalk platform to follow.

2) Now go to Steel > Home > Structural Objects > Catwalk and click on that tool.

3) Now it will prompt you to select the polyline and then the Catwalk platform gets placed.

4) After the placement of the platform, the Cat Walk dialog box appears.

5) Here you can set in all the shapes and size parameters as per your requirements.

6) In the Handrail tab, you can set the polyline for Handrail insertion along with the offsets if needed.

7) After this, say OK. The handrail Polyline then appears at the respective sides of the platform.

8) Now, to finally create and place Handrail, you need to select the tool at Steel > Home > Structural Objects > Handrails

9) Select the polyline that was created while switching ON the Handrail smartline option, and the handrail then gets placed automatically.

10) You can then edit any details and measurements in the Handrail dialog box and then click on OK.

In this manner, you can a create a catwalk platform with a single tool and place it at multiple places in your models with ease.
