While modelling steel structures, you may need to place a Rectangular Platform at many places in the model. The ‘Rectangular Platform’ tool will allow you to create a platform of any polygonal shape of your requirement and place the same at multiple places in your model at ease.
This document will guide you on how to create, place and control the insertion and modelling of Rectangular Platforms.
Enter methods to resolve in this section.
1) Navigate to Steel > Home > Structural Objects > Rectangular Platform and click on that tool.
2) Now it will prompt you to select one of the three methods available for the placement of the platform.
(a) Polygon – Allows you to select an already existing polygon created of MicroStation Poly line
(b) Two points – Allows you to specify the first corner point and the other corner point to define the rectangular platform shape size.
(c) More Points – Allows you to select each point along the polygon shape that you want the rectangular platform in.
In this case, we will choose the third option, viz. ‘More Points’
3) On selecting the More Points option, you need to specify the start point, the next successive points and then when you wish to complete the closed polygon, select the first point again.
4) Now, it will prompt you to ‘Select the segment of Polyline to align the grid’ of the plate.
After this, you need to define the ‘Original Point’ by selecting a point along the closed polygon.
5) The Rectangular platform is then created, and the corresponding dialog box opens to define the platform shapes and other parameters.
6) Here you can set in all the shapes and size parameters as per your requirements.
7) In the Plate tab, you can choose whether or not to display the plate and control the plate thickness as well.
8) In the Handrail tab, you can set the polyline for Handrail insertion along with the offsets if needed by clicking on the check box before the Handrail Polygon option.
9) After this, say OK. The handrail Polyline then appears at the respective sides of the platform.
10) Now, to finally create and place Handrail, you need to select the tool at Steel > Home > Structural Objects > Handrails
11) Select the polyline that was created while switching ON the Handrail SmartLine option, and the handrail then gets placed automatically.
12) You can then edit any details and measurements in the Handrail dialog box and then click on OK.
In this manner, you can a create a rectangular platform with a single tool and place it at multiple places in your models with ease.
