Before you actually proceed with the creation of the Detail Styles below are the things you need to take into consideration.
Identify the type of element you are creating the Detail Style for.
Single part e.g. Baseplate, Endplates, Shear plates, Stiffeners, etc.,
Groups e.g. Beams, Columns, Bracings, etc.,
Assemblies e.g. Trusses, Frames, etc.,
Connection Node e.g. Joints, Detail Connections
Views e.g. Plan View, Elevations, etc.,
Plan your end result. Carefully plan how you would like the presentation of your 2D Drawings and to which type of element you intend to use it.

Use a sample element to test the changes in the Detail Style which will then reflect in the 2D preview.
Do the changes in preview mode, this way you can familiarize yourself with the effect of the changes in the 2D drawings. (Note: In the Detail Center Settings Tab > Disable “Update preview when style changes”. This option will let you just do a manual update to reflect and see the changes.
Creating a Customise Detail Style.
Open a sample model and then Launch the Detail Center
Using the Standard Detail Style > Right click > Create a copy > Enter a New Style Name
Assign the sample element to the newly created Detail Style
Go to Settings Tab > disable “Update preview when Style changes”
Go to View Tab > Select on the element right click > Preview * (Note: The 2D preview will open)
Select the Element again right click > Edit Style *(Note: The Detail Style Dialog Box will open)
Modify the changes and use the preview button to see the changes
Once all the changes are done and you are satisfied with the presentation save the Detail Style.
You may now use The Detail Style.
