Columns Grids are basically used as reference while modelling and used with dynamic views. In the ProStructures, the workflow for column grid placement is little different than other placement tools.
This wiki will show you the steps for placement of a column grid.
1. Under the steel workflow, navigate to the Column grid tool located under Home>Elements
2. Clicking on this tool will open the dialog box for it.
3. In the first section of the dialog, with the help of ‘Add’ option box you can create number of orthogonal and radial grids of different name, values.
4. Once the grid as added then you can set the number of grid lines, horizontal and vertical spacings in the Grid line settings tab. Once all these settings are applied then click on the ‘Create/Update Grid button’ at the bottom.
5. Here, you cannot insert the grid directly in the model. The grid gets created in the form of another design file which is saved under same WorkSpace/WorkSet. In the models tab, you will see the created grid and it will open once you double click on it.
6. Now to place this grid into the main model, you need reference the column grid design file into the main model.
7. To insert the grid into a main model, open the main model and click the ‘References’ tool and attach the file ‘Grid 1’ (name of the column grid given) as reference to the main model.
8. While attaching the reference, select the grid model as Grid 1 (name of the grid dgn file) for referencing.
9. After referencing, the grid will get placed in the main model.
In this way, a column grid can be used and inserted in the model.
