Overview

Working with design models, we can create one or more discrete models, simply, within a single DGN file. Using the Models dialog, we can quickly switch between the various models in the DGN file. Where a DGN file contains many models, one can set a filter so that only particular models display in the dialog.

Similarly, we can create sheet models to compose your design drawings. The drawings typically consist of references of the design models. References can be from the open DGN file, or from other DGN files on disk. As with design models, we can use the Models dialog to switch between the sheet models. At any given time, only one "active" model can be displayed, either a sheet model, a design model or a drawing model.

A drawing model is the intermediate between the 3D design model and a printable sheet model. It is an unbounded white space that contains one or more views of the design model. We can use a drawing model for centralizing annotations that need to be shared across multiple sheets. If we want to extend a saved view by adding annotations, dimensions, callouts, and other embellishments, create a drawing model for it. When a drawing model is attached to a sheet, the drawing model's annotation scale is used as the attachment's default detail scale.

In this Wiki, we are going to learn about How to create a new Design, Sheet or Drawing Model.

Method

1. Open the Models dialog Drawing > Home > Primary.

2. In the Models dialog, click the Create a new model icon.

3. Then the Create model dialog will open.

4. After this, From the Type list box, choose Design, Drawing, Sheet, Design from Seed, Drawing from Seed or Sheet from Seed. (Refer the image below.)

5. If the Type is Design or Sheet, select 2D or 3D from the list box to the right.  The Seed Model field displays the name of the seed model.

6. In the Name field, type the required name and In the Description field, type a brief description of the model.

7. In the Ref Logical field, type a logical name for the model. The logical name is used to uniquely identify the model when it is attached as a reference.

8. Turn on Create a View Group (to create a view group for the model). Creating a view group lets you change models through the View Groups window.

9. If anyone wants to use the model as a cell, turn on Can be placed as a cell and select a cell type.

10. Click OK and this way a new design, sheet or model can be created.
