Overview

When modelling steel structures, you may need many elements to have the same properties before finalizing your model. In course of modelling, it may be cumbersome to manually change each property of each element. In such cases, you can match the properties of the objects you want to change to a steel member whose properties are desired to be achieved by using the Match Properties tool.

This document will guide you on how to match properties of the required target elements to a certain source steel member.

Method

1) Navigate to Steel > Utilities > Macros > Match properties and click on that tool.

2) Now in the Match Properties dialog box, you need to select the properties that you want to inherit to your targeted steel members.

3) Then click on the ‘Source’ option and select the steel object whose properties you want to inherit.

After this, you will see that all the desired properties are populated in the ‘Match Properties’ dialog box and ready to pass on to our target steel elements.

4) Then, click on the ‘Target’ option and select the steel elements you want these properties to be passed on to.

The sources properties have now been inherited by the target steel members.

5) The same can then be verified by checking in the PS Properties of the individual members.

In this manner, you can easily match properties of numerous steel members at once.
