Background
The Device.mdb database gathers the data from the various catalogs that the software is configured to use by linking to tables in the catalog.mdb files in the catalog folders. The software connects to the Device.mdb file to know what is available in the catalogs. For catalogs not residing in the local file system (network catalogs) Device.mdb links to tables in the [[Catalog cache - Bentley Substation|cached catalog.mdb files]].
The software will not recreate the Device.mdb file if it is deleted. If this file is suspect, replace it with a known good file from another machine or the empty Device.mdb file linked in the See Also section below.

Device.mdb is located in a subfolder of
%userprofile%\appdata\local\Bentley\Substation\
such as
