How to use Add Flanges tool?

Overview

In this document we are going to learn how to use Add Flanges tool. This tool is used for adding edge or bent segments to the existing plate. This results a three dimensionally Bent Plate however is representing a single component part, and which can be depicted as flat via unfolding.

Method

1) This tool is available at two places in the ribbon.

a) Ribbon: Steel > Edit Steel Elements > Add Flanges.



b) In the Plates/ Polyplates dialog, there is an option available as Add flanges at the bottom. (Refer the image below.)



2) Click on the Add Flanges option and the Bent Plates dialog will appear.



3) There are several controlling features available in the dialog box from which length, bend angle, bend radius and edge distances of Bent plates can be controlled. Information regarding Dialog controls is given below.


4) After setting all the inputs click on the Add flange(   ) option.

5) Then Select the edge of the plate to which you want to add a bent plate and then check the result.




6) In this way, a Bent shape can be added to an existing plate and same procedure should be followed if the tool is opened from Plate/Polyplate dialog.
