Updating Database for OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Update 10 and through

 Product(s):OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT
 Version(s): 10.10.XX.XX to 10.11.XX.XX
 Environment: NA
 Area: Database Platform Support
 Subarea: NA

Background:

Substation uses a database to store project-related information. Substation stores all the Project details in a SQL Database. And one Project Database can store details for several Projects. Each version of Substation has its corresponding database schema and Version and whenever Substation upgraded the Project Database also needs to be updated.

But from OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Update 10 onwards in the Substation Project Database will also have SubVersion and the Major Database version will remain the same as the earlier version. Due to this users can install Substation in Staggered approach, hence due to which users with different Substation version can be able to work with same Project Database as the Database version will be same. And the SubVersion can be used to track the database up-gradation instead of the Database or Schema Version.

Due to this reason when users will upgrade from OpenUtilities (OU) Substation Update 9 Refresh 2 10.09.02.23 to OU Substation Update 10 10.10.00.20 and try to connect to the same database, they will not receive a Message requesting to upgrade the database.

Note: Also in the future, if there are any major updates to the Project Database with Substation Release there may be database or schema version updating required.

Steps to Accomplish

1. Administrator upgrades to the latest OpenUtilties Substation on a single machine. Below Wiki Article can be referred for Installing Substation.

2. Administrator uses Update the Database Method: Executing a Script for updating the existing database using the script from the newly installed Substation Machine. The steps for updating the Project database can be referred from the below Wiki Link.
Note: Before updating the database consider taking a backup of the database so that in case of any issues in the upgrading processes the backup can be used.

3. Administrator can now upgrade client machines and while the client machines are being updated users with the previous version and new version of Substation can access the Projects because the Major DB version is the same.
