Overview

Digital signature is a tool to capture the current state of a drawing or model. It is used for verification of consent and showing approval for the current state of the model in a verified manner.

Background

A digital signature is an electronic sign that authenticates the credentials of the creator or sender of the file (model), to secure the contents and validate that the originality of the file or model has not been changed since sending to the recipient.

For a file, multiple digital signatures can be attached to the file or model along with hierarchical  signing possibility. This signature is valid for the attached DGN as well as DWG references too. The recipient of the files can verify and validate the digital signature of the files.

Method

1) To add a digital signature, go to the ‘Drawing’ workflow, then Utilities > Security > Signatures

2) In the ‘Digital Signatures’ dialog box, first add a signature by selecting the appropriate certificate. You can also fill in additional details like purpose of signature, expiry date.

3) After saying OK, you can now see that your digital signature has been added to the model and can check the status of its verification, purpose, signer details, etc.

4) The same can also be accessed from the bottom right corner of the ProStructures work screen.

5) When, any change is made in the file or drawing, again it can be seen that the signature has become unverified, by going to the ‘Digital Signatures’ dialog box.

6) Once you make all the necessary and required changes in your model and are satisfied, you can again re-authenticate the digital signature by clicking on the ‘Re-validate Signature’ in the ‘Digital Signatures’ dialog box.

7) This digital signature can be also viewed and verified across other Bentley applications to.

NOTE :- In order to digitally sign a file or model, you must have a valid Digital Certificate.
