Are ProSteel drawings backwards compatible with older ProSteel versions ?
ProSteel is NOT backward compatible.
Before you open a ProSteel drawing (*.dgn or *.dwg) with a more recent ProSteel version, you should make a backup of the file. When you open drawings from older versions for the first time, all components and styles are converted to the current format. After that, the drawing can be opened in older versions, but most of the components can no longer be displayed correctly.
With the current CONNECT Edition of ProSteel, the program recognizes whether a drawing comes from an older version and then offers to create a backup of the file.
The copy of the drawing has the same name plus ‘_backup’ as a suffix in the file name.
