Custom Geocoordinate Systems

You should all know that you can set he coordinate system of your design from Tools>Geographics. It is even advised to assign one so that it is explicit.

Rail Track platform (SS2 or SS4) manages coordinate systems and is able to reproject references and rasters on the fly.

Do you know that you can create your own coordinate system if it doesn't exist?

Bentley Map allows to create custom GCS and Map can be activated within Rail Track, no license required.

The steps are:

  1. Copy the file seed.dty from C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\PowerRailTrack V8i\Map\coordinate\seed to a location where you have read/write permission
  2. Rename the file as you want (MyGCSLibrary.dty)
  3. Edit the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\PowerRailTrack V8i\PowerRailTrack\Config\systel\msgeocoord.cfg and set the variable MS_GEOCOORDINATE_USERLIBRARIES. Note that you can set it elsewhere (site, projet, user configuration files) if you wish or don't have write permission on this file. The good thing is that there are some help to set this variable. It should look like:
    MS_GEOCOORDINATE_USERLIBRARIES: <path>/MyGCSLibrary.dty [My Custom GCS]
    My Custom GCS
is what you will see in the GCS browser to pick your coordinate system
  4. Launch Rail Track
  5. Activate Map using Rail Track Tools>Activate Map
  6. Open the Geocoordinate Systems Library from Tools>Select Geographic Coordinate System
  7. Copy an existing coordinate system as a base for your own into your folder
  8. Right click on this new coordinate system to edit it. Remember that you can edit only if Map is activated
