Cluster nodes not starting properly (v6.5.0 only)

Product(s):Cube
Version(s):CE (v6.5)
Area:Cluster

*Note: this issue is only relevant for CUBE v6.5.0, we encourage to upgrade to v6.5.1 to have more stable operations of Cluster nodes.*

When starting a significant number of Cluster nodes (>10) in CUBE CE (v6.5.0), the cluster nodes might fail to start, or take a significant amount of time, or hang up. This issue is related to how Cluster nodes use the new Bentley CONNECT licensing when they are opened. After a node is opened, it should function without any issues. Below is a solution to avoid the issue with opening Cluster nodes.

Solution

  1. In windows search, search for Bentley Licensing Tool and open the tool.

  2. Go to Checkout License
    1. Filter by product name and filter the 3 products (CUBE, CUBE Voyager, CUBE Voyager Node). If you need other CUBE products you can check them out too.
    2. Select each product
    3. Set up an expiration date. By default Bentley provides 7 days of offline use after a license is activated on a machine. By setting the expiration date to a longer period you can avoid signing in to CONNECTION Client every 7 days.
    4. Choose version to checkout to be 06.05.00.00
    5. Checkout each product

  3. Sign out of CONNECTION Client.

This will make sure that the licenses are locally served and CONNECTION Client is not communicating with our license server which seems to cause the issue. After the checkout period expires, repeat the process to checkout the license for additional time.
