Background

By default each new user is created using default settings and each user can edit those settings by his own requirements, but sometimes there is requirement, that major part of all required settings should be already prepared for all users. Below instruction will help to prepare existing environment to use Standards directory and prepare user preferences with all requirements for all users.

Steps to Accomplish

_USTN_SITE variable in msconfig.cfg file is set to look in .../Workspace/Standards directory. This default configuration was specially prepared for similar requirements to have special configuration files which could be used as standards.

  1. Open your .../Workspace/Standards directory
  2. Open Standards.cfg file which is located on .../Workspace/Standards folder and add below presented variables with values pointing directly to shared user preferences.

    MS_DOCKINGPREF            : $(_USTN_SITE)prefs/OpenPlantPID.docking.xml
    MS_GROUPPANELPREF    : $(_USTN_SITE)prefs/OpenPlantPID.GroupPanels.xml
    MS_TASKDIALOGPREF     : $(_USTN_SITE)prefs/OpenPlantPID.TaskNavigation.xml
    MS_USERINT_PREFS         : $(_USTN_SITE)prefs/OpenPlantPID-Interface.upf
    MS_USERPREF                    : $(_USTN_SITE)prefs/OpenPlantPID-User.upf

  3. Launch OpenPlant PID, select any user, project, interface and open any model.

  4. Make all required changes to your interface and preferences.

  5. Save all settings and close OpenPlant PID
  6. All configured preferences files will be created in .../WorkSpace/Standards/prefs directory and then always used as standard preferences

  7. After saving all changes, make a copy of prefs folder for security reasons. If somehow prefs will be corrupted or changed you will be able to replace them back again.

Note: Required interface, preferences and other changes should be done only after all configuration steps are done, because on first time opening it is overwriting preferences with standard settings. After saving them it will always load last saved settings.

Now each time, by opening application with any user, any interface or any project, preferences will be same. As well each user will be able to edit those preferences and then all other users will see those changes.
