In OpenPlant Modeler, below explanations highlights placement of Grids using Column Grid option.

Background

In OpenPlant Modeler with new integrated Column Grid option present under Structural tab facilitate users to get a grid placement for structure. It provides an option to set customizable grids as per given structure columns by also furnishing a graphical preview. Additionally it also create a file in the background to be used later in OpenPlant Isometrics Manager. In below steps it will be described in detail to be able to help user to proceed the modeling easily.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch OpenPlant Modeler, Select Project unit. Say Metric here.
  2. From Structural Tab, click on “Column Grids” option. See image below.

  3. Grid Systems dialog gets open. See image below.

  4. Select type of Grids. By Default Two types of grids are available Orthogonal/Radial. Say Orthogonal here.

  5. Set Name to Grid. Select any type, say Test Orthogonal here.

  6. Option X Offset & Y Offset are the global co-ordinates. Check Co-ordinates of Structure reference file and use the same here. Set rotation if any.

NoteClick on Right + Left mouse click on structure

  7. Fill Horizontal/Vertical grids as per structural span using “Grid Line Settings” dialog.

  8. After entries, click on Create/Update Grid Models.
  9. GridModels.dgn & Gridlines.txt gets created. User can find inside the default folder. Also path can be seen in message center. See image below.

  10. Reference GridModels.dgn file generated to see inside OpenPlant Modeler. Navigate to path mentioned in below image.

  11. Select Model created for column grid. See below image where Orthogonal Grid selected.

  12. Also reference structure file.

  13. In Model, set the annotation scale correctly by right clicking on default mode. See image below. For more Details click here>>>>.

    Note –
User may increase the size as per visibility.

  14. Do a reference Move command to adjust the grids exactly below structure.

  15. See image below after correct placement. Set display to Monochrome for good view.

  16. Go to Level Display dialog, check off grid mask from it. See image below.

  17. Start modeling & verify results.
  18. To get this grids working in OpenPlant Isometrics Manager, gridlines.txt file got generated automatically with correct co-ordinates. See auto generated file below.

  19. Copy the generated gridlines.txt file and ensure that it has been applied on correct isometric style location.
  20. Also for various coordinate label display, user may try different values present in style.cfg file. See Image below.

  21. Generate Isometrics & verify results.

Explanation of Call-Out

Piping Arrangement within gridline call-out explanation w.r.t relative co-ordinates

In above arrangement we have

For Pipe End 1

The nearest intersection grid is 4-A. From intersection point, relative distance is 155.71 mm in South and 89.93 mm in East.

For Pipe End 2

The nearest intersection grid is 5-D. From intersection point, relative distance is 90.51 mm in South and 105.55 mm in East.

Result in Isometric
