- Steps 3 to 8 are only required when migrating custom content. They are not required if installing an out of the box SS5 dataset. Seek further advice before proceeding if in doubt about this.
- This follows on from Updating/Migrating and SS3 Datasets to SS4.
- SS5 will install alongside SS4.
Assumptions:
- This example is based on a networked workspace where the shared workspace in located in drive/share…\V8i_SS4\
- Project data is located in a separate drive/share.
For clarity these locations will be as follows:
- Workspace: W:\V8i_SS4\
- Projects: P:\<projectname>
Files in the workspace located outside the dataset(s) will need to be reviewed for changes since this aspect is not covered by this document. Any workspace files that have been customised to your company standards should be included.
The migration from SS4 to SS5 is simpler, the changes are primarily to support new mechanical features.
Summary of steps:
- Create a new network location for your workspace and dataset in parallel to the existing ss4 dataset; e.g., W:\V8i_SS5\.
- Modify your existing network configuration to use the new location. (The steps required to do this will vary according to the configuration method used to direct AECOsim Building Designer to the network.)
- Copy existing SS4 workspace folders and contents to the new SS5 folder except for the Building Dataset(s).
- Copy the delivered SS5 Building Dataset(s) to the SS5 folder in the same location used by your SS4 workspace. Include the DatasetExtensions folder containing the IFC content.
- Copy your Company Dataset (if you have one) folders from SS4 to SS5.
- Systems Configuration Changes:
In …\config\appl\BuildingDisciplines.cfg we added a New Configuration Variable
BMECH_OVERRIDESETTING_FILE : (TFDIR_SETTING)MechanicalOverrides.xml
We removed this section (not compatible with Structural & Mechanical workflows):

- The project datasets and files will be in the project folders, their contents may also need to be updated if necessary using the the DG and Dataset update utilities.
