Overview
To Cleanup Isometrics labels and other objects for DWG/PDF output using the configuration settings in OpenPlant Isometrics Manager.
Problem Description
Using AutoPLANT Modeler & OpenPlant Isometrics Manager, when drawing output taken in DWG format, user could not be able to modify labels and other objects etc to clean up the overlaps, use of extra spaces in drawings and writing extra notes and other information in it. Below mentioned steps will aid user to make the changes in DGN file and same can get updated in DWG file. In below it has been described in context with AutoPLANT Modeler and OpenPlant Isometrics Manager. However a similar approach would also worked with using OpenPlant Modeler and OpenPlant Isometrics Manager.
OpenPlant Modeler - OpenPlant Isometrics Manager
Steps to Resolve
- Open Style.cfg file from the project folder. Below path shown for default project folder. User may refer it as guideline.
<C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Plant V8i\Bentley Plant V8i Projects\SAMPLE_METRIC\Config\OpenPlant\Isometrics\styles\IFC>
- In style.cfg file, add two variables mentioned below.
IE_OUTPUT_FORMAT=DWG,DGN,PDF
IE_OUT=$(IE_DGN)Output_Files/

Note – More than one Output format will be written to IE_DGN. The other formats will get saved to the directory as mentioned in above variable i.e. IE_OUT=$(IE_DGN). User can assign any name for folders. Here it has been named as Output_Files followed by /. Each of these variables can be configured in the Isoproj.cfg or style.cfg files.
- The Current Supported Formats are:
DGN as 3D master isometric
DGN2 a 2D DGN format
DWG a 2D DWG format
PDF a 2D PDF format
- Save and close the file.
- Generate Isometrics from AutoPLANT Modeler interface.
Note –OpenPlant Modeler user, can launch OpenPlant Isometrics Manager and generate isometrics using I model. User can produce the drawing in both DWG and DGN format.
Let’s take a short exercise here.>>>
- Open Isometric Drawing in DGN Format.
- Review Drawing if some congestion is there or some overlaps are present. See image below.

- Make changes as desired. User can use ‘Modify Label Tool’ option to move the labels and cleanup some congestions. See image below:

- Now process the same file to DWG using Key-in provided in below steps.
- From Main Menu, Go to Utilities and select Key-in Option.

- User may also dock this Key-in window for easy handling.

- Type isoext publish in key-in dialog.

- It will create a drawing with DWG format with changes done in DGN file. See below DWG file.

To Publish All DGN files in DWG present inside the working folder.
User can similarly modify the changes for all working DGN files and Publish it to DWG format at one instance using Key-in isoext publish *
- With Key-in isoext publish * in Key-in Dialog.

- Select ‘OK’.
- A program will run as shown in below.

- Using this key-in with * will publish all the existing DGN files present inside the working DGN folder and other output format will get saved inside the same defined folder. See image below for DGN present inside the DGN folder and Corresponding output files got generated in other specified folder.
Note - See folder path mentioned below where all DGN and other Output_Files folder has been processed.
C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Plant V8i\Bentley Plant V8i Projects\SAMPLE_METRIC\Isometrics\Styles\ IFC\dgn\
To Publish 2D DGN file as Default Isometrics (With OpenPlant Isometrics Manager SS6 Only)
For some specific case, if only 2D DGN isometric output file is needed, then user can achieve it using below steps.
- Open Style.cfg file from the project folder. Below path shown for default project folder. User may refer it as guideline.
<C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenPlantModeler V8i\WorkSpace\Projects\OPModeler_Metric\DataSet\Isometrics\Styles\IFC\Config>
For AutoPLANT Modeler- OpenPlant Isometrics Manager use below default path:
<C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Plant V8i\Bentley Plant V8i Projects\SAMPLE_METRIC\Config\OpenPlant\Isometrics\styles\IFC>
- In style.cfg file, add variable mentioned below.
IE_OUTPUT_FORMAT=DGN2

Note – Other variable like shown in above mentioned section shall not be required to add.
- Generate isometrics. To verify results click on "Explore WorkFile Root" option..

- Also check folder where isometric create in 2D DGN format.

AutoPLANT Modeler - OpenPlant Isometrics Manager
Steps to resolve
1. Launch Project Administrator.

2. Navigate to the Project, expand the OpenPlant Isometrics Manager.

3. In the Isometric Style tab, select advanced and click on "Explore Style"
.
4. Open the style.cfg file from the config folder.

5. Add a variable IE_OUTPUT_FORMAT = DGN, DWG, PDF in one line. Add a directory where the file while will be saved IE_OUT=$(IE_DGN)exports/

6. Save the style.cfg file and close it.
7. Create a new file and name Plot.cfg in config folder (just an empty file).

8. Now select Configuration >> Isometric Style tab >> Open Seed file.

9. Select Settings >> Levels >> Manager.

10 Select Levels >> New in Level Manager and create a New level with name Plot.

11. Create a shape (box) on border (to show everything in the box in PDF file) and set Plot as active level.

12. Save the seed file and close it.
13. Open the AutoPLANT Modeler. Create Iso via OPIM and navigate to the output folder to see the generated isometrics.

14. There will be isometrics in DWG, DGN and PDF format in the output folders.
