I am trying to import an IFC file produced by Tekla that includes bolts that are part of Bolt Groups, but have been unsuccessful. I need to produce working drawings from our concrete AECOsim Building Designer models & the imported steel work from Tekla, but it seems that the bolts from Tekla simply do not transfer correctly - they are either missing or are scaled out of proportion.
It appears that the way Tekla exports these bolts, or bolt groups, to IFC, is not in a fashion that works well with AECOsim Building Designer.
You may be able to directly open the IFC in order to display the bolts since the IFC filter embedded in AECOsim Building Designer (as well as MicroStation) uses a different technology. However, using this method will bring across the graphics only, no building attributes. If individual building properties are not essential, you can then take that natively opened IFC file (now in DGN format) and export it to IFC, which can then be import into a new DGN file. However, in this case the element IFC properties will all be replaced by the generic "IfcBuildingElementProxy".
The best method to obtain both graphics and properties may be to separate the structural members and bolts within Tekla. Export only the structural members to IFC, SDNF or CIS/2, any of which should bring in usable results. For the bolts, use either DWG or one of the methods mentioned above to obtain good geometry, and then assign the applicable Structural and DataGroup properties to those elements. Lastly, attach that resulting file as a reference to the primary structural file created from importing the Tekla data, and then merge the two together.
