Background

While trying to open AECOsim Building Designer, an error message is displayed. A Microsoft Visual Basic Error is displayed.

Steps to Accomplish

This error is caused by missing design-time licenses for ActiveX controls used in VB 6.0. These licenses shipped with earlier versions of Visual Basic but are no longer supported by Microsoft and have been discontinued with the current version. Kindly follow the steps below to resolve this issue at your end.

1. Download VBUSC.exe from Microsoft
2. Right click VBUSC.exe and choose "Run as Administrator." Install it successfully and you wont see this error again.

3. If instead you see a "Microsoft Visual Basic was not detected on this System" error, manually run the vbcontrols registration file in Regedit:
    - Back up the current Windows registry below HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Licenses (export it to a different location)
    - Select the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Licenses directory
    - Go to file> import and find the VB6Controls.reg file. You can find the file HERE
4. If the "License information for this component not found" error still persists, check the registry key:
    - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{6262D3A0-531B-11CF-91F6-C2863C385E30}\Compatibility Flags

If it Exists, set it to 0. For 32 bit OS, remove WOW6432Node form the registry key path.
5. You may also need to delete all .exd files on the affected machine. See this article, which explains .exd files and how to delete the,.
