How to Set Symbology of Pipeline by Service

In OpenPlant Modeler, to set symbology of pipeline based on Service.

Background

User wants to define symbology for pipeline by service in OpenPlant Modeler, also want to place pipe and centerline at a particular level.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch OpenPlant Modeler.

  2. Select a particular project here (metric unit project).

  3. From OpenPlant Modeler Window, go to File > Open.

  4. In Files of type change from CAD files to DGN Library Files (*. dgnlib).



  5. Open OPModeler.dgnlib.

  6. Go to Level Manager and create new level for Pipe and Centerline of Pipe, also define the symbology (color, line style, line weight) as required.

  7. Click on Create New Level and enter the name & symbology setting.



  8. Similarly create a level for centerline.



  9. Close the Level Manager Dialog.

  10. From File Menu options, go to Element and Element Templates.



  11. In Element Templates Window. Expand OPModeler.dgnlib > OpenPlant > Piping.

  12. Right click on Piping Node and select New Template Group.



  13. Name the Template Group as per requirement.

    Note: Template Group Name must be same as the Service Name

  14. Right click on newly created Template Group Name and add New Template as Model, Centerline & Insulation.





  15. To place Model and centerline on particular level select the newly created levels as shown

  16. Once desired templates has been defined, select Utilities > Update Templates From Library as shown below.



  17. From File Menu Option, Go to Utilities > Named Expressions.

  18. In Named Expression window search OP SYMBOLOGY PIPING and enter the expression as shown below.

    "BY_TEMPLATE:OpenPlant\Piping\" & PIPELINE.SERVICE_NAME & ":Model"



  19. Click on save after editing the Expression.

  20. Similarly change expression for OP SYMBOLOGY PIPING CENTERLINE as

    "BY_TEMPLATE:OpenPlant\Piping\" & PIPELINE.SERVICE_NAME & ":Centerline"



  21. Save the setting.

  22. Switch to piping model.

  23. To check the customization create a line number with service as SERVICE1. Refer image below.



    Note: Service name must be same as that of created template group name to see desired result

  24. Select any nominal size and route a pipe and verify the result.



  25. Notice that pipe is placed on Pipe Level and Centerline is placed on Pipe Centerline level along with relevant color defined for the level.
