Background

A new feature in Bentley Raceway and Cable Management (BRCM) Update 4 enables the user to include equipment User Defined Attribute (UDA) values in the product codes and descriptions that appear in Bill of Quantities (BOQ) reports. 

Since product codes are often driven by different property values, the ability to utilize an equipment UDA in the Product Code can be a highly useful thing.

This document provides the steps to include Equipment UDAs in a BOQ for product codes and descriptions.

Steps To Accomplish-

1. Launch the Application and open the Equipment DGN file or the DGN file which is registered as 3D model Equipment or 3D Model Equipment * Raceway.
2. Start by adding an Equipment UDA to the desired equipment. Open the Equipment Manager and click on the Create/Modify Equipment Click on open and select the equipment to be modified.
   
   
   

 

3. In Equipment Properties tab at bottom, click on the ellipsis to add the UDA. Select the UDA Name and Value and click OK. The UDA is now added to the Equipment properties.
   
   
   
   
4. Save the Changes and Place the Equipment.
   
   
   
   
5. Select the Manage ribbon and click on Object Info and select the Equipment which is now placed. Here the details of the Equipment can be found like the class name, Material name, the XML file name of the Equipment, UDAs of Equipment, etc.
   
   Copy the material name “Rittal Cabinet 20x12x53”
   
   
   
   
   
6. Update the database and close the application.
7. Navigate to the equipment folder of the Standard dataset and open the xml file.
   
   
   
   
8. Find the material name which is copied from Object info.
   
   
   
   
9. In the Properties Syntax Edit the Description and PCode by adding the variable for UDA value as follows:
   
   For Voltage UDA ($UVVoltage)
   
   
   
   
   
10. Launch the application and again open same DGN file. Navigate to the Output ribbon and click on Output manager. In Output Manager dialog select Detail_BOQ report and select the resource as the same DGN file and click on Preview.
    
    
    
    
11. As seen in the preview, the UDA value for equipment is added into Descriptions and
    
    
    
    
12. These steps can be also followed for other UDAs.
    For instance, if the user needs a new UDA value in the BOQ then the following steps can be followed.
    
    
13. Add a new equipment UDA from the Options dialog as follows:
    
    i. Select Options in the Manage tab from the Project Setup section. (Step 1 & 2)
    ii. Select the UDA Settings tab and then select the Equipment UDAs tab. (Step 3 & 4)
    iii. Create an Equipment UDA for a product code Name by clicking Add. The Default Value is PanelColor and the Class is val. Click Apply to save the new or modified Equipment UDA. (Step 5 to 8)
    
    
    
    

14.  A BRCM information dialog will appear to restart the application to make UDA changes available in EC Properties. Click OK.

    

15. Update the Database and close application. Repeat Step 2 to Step 7.
16. While Editing the CAT_EQP_PCode_EN file, add the variable for newly added UDA.
    
    For UDA PanelColor ($UVPanelColor)
    As shown below the user can also add multiple UDA variables into the report
    
    
    
    
    
17. For other UDAs user can define the variable as $UV followed by UDA id
    
    
    
    
18. Repeat Step 9 and preview the report.
