Using Named Groups to Control Grid Display

 Product:OpenBuildings Designer
 Version:CONNECT Edition
 Area:Grid Systems
SubArea:Grid Annotations

The Situation

We have multiple grids created for our project, and on the drawings we occasionally need to display off one or more of the grids.  Is there a quick way to turn off the display of an entire grid?

Solution

Named Groups can be used to quickly select an entire grid in a drawing view.  Once selected, Hide Grid Annotation can be accessed from the right-press menu and the entire grid can be displayed off.

Named groups are one of the most flexible ways to group elements in a design file.  The elements of each grid that is created in the OpenBuildings Designer Grid System Manager are automatically grouped as a Named Group when a drawing view is created and the grids are displayed.  This gives you a quick way to select all the elements of the grid so that the entire grid can be displayed off using the Hide Grid Annotation option.

Steps:

  1. In the Drawing view open the Named Groups dialog.
  2. Select the grid(s) that you want to display off .
  3. Use the Select icon in the Named Groups dialog to create a selection set.
  4. Right-press on one of the selected grid lines and select Hide Grid Annotation

The grid will be displayed off and will remain off unless grid lines are added to the grid system or the Rebuild Grid function is used.
